ELEFTHERIA KOTZIA
“A Mediterranean Journey”
Described by USA Review as doing for the Greek soul what flamenco does for the Spanish, ELEFTHERIA KOTZIA takes you to
An unforgettable journey to the shores of the east and west Mediterranean a programme where the music of today fuses with the memories of yesterday to create a unique universe of sound.
The American Record Guide hailed her as a “wizard-a strong sensuous player with bite and sass…” Ms. Kotzia’s world premiere recording of “The Blue Guitar” by Sir Michael Tippet was described as “life enhancing”, enjoyed unanimous critical acclaim and was selected by Gramophone as a “ critic’s choice recording of the year”. Prolific composer John Tavener adapts his only solo guitar work for her. She has performed at major venues throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia and the Far East and is internationally recognised as a leading exponent of the classical guitar music of her native Greece.
Eleftheria Kotzia expands the standard guitar repertoire with new works and inspires composers to write for her.
The concert includes masterpieces by composers such as Joaquin Rodrigo, Roland Dyens, Regino Sainz de la Maza, Francisco Tarrega as well as Greek composers.
In Homage to Hector VILLA LOBOS’ 50th anniversary from the death, music by the legendary Brazilian composer will also be featured in this varied and spirited programme.
