LUCY VICTORIA COCHRANE MA, PGCE (Clarinet)
Lucy began playing the clarinet at the age of seven and entered the Junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with John Davies, achieving Grade 8 honours at age thirteen. She began regularly performing within an orchestral setting from a young age, performing in the National Children’s Wind and Chamber Orchestras of Great Britain and subsequently taking on the position of co-leader of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain at age fifteen.
Lucy was awarded a scholarship as a specialist clarinettist at Wells Cathedral School, studying with Dr. Kevin Murphy and had the opportunity to perform in various master classes with many reputable clarinettists, notably Dr. Howard King, Angela Malsbury, Michael Collins and David Campbell.
Lucy continued her musical education at Cambridge University where she played regularly for various college music societies whilst performing as principal clarinettist of Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and the Music Societies’ first orchestra conducted by Stephen Cleobury and Peter Stark.
Lucy's passion for sharing musical experiences is evident in her creating and directing exciting music activity courses with enthusiastic young children during the summer. She encourages instrumental playing, singing and composition for children aged between 4 and 10 years. Lucy also tutors woodwind players on an orchestral programme, organised by ‘Musicale Holidays’, in various locations around England.
Lucy won the 'Music at Beaulieu Award' where she performed for Sir David Willcocks in a soloist’s competition. She was subsequently awarded the winner’s bursary and the opportunity to play in a recital concert in Beaulieu Abbey.
Lucy has completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Cambridge University, specialising in music and primary education and now teaches at St. Faith's, Cambridge. Lucy now performs with various orchestras, most recently the Cambridge Philharmonic. In addition to playing locally,
Lucy has had the opportunity to perform internationally, including in the United States, France, Belgium and Germany.
